I wonder how much of these increases can be tied back to the rapid digital transformation that society has undergone in the past decade. Social media rewires how reward pathways in our brains function. I think many people would be extremely dismissive of receiving a social media addiction diagnosis but that does not change the prevalence of it; especially in adolescents. I think this would be an interesting topic for dialogue since social media is so integral to society as a whole at this point - how do you go about implementing safeguards for technology that we didn't know needed to be there from the beginning?
